This concerns a significant stage in the colonization of the African continent, which greatly influenced the history of many countries. It is also known as the Berlin Congo Conference, and not only in Congo it remains known as a symbol of imperialism. Was Bismarck, who invited to the conference, the spiritual master of colonialism, a dismemberer of an entire continent as shown by the famous caricature? What influence did it have on Africa, and what on Europe?
In the year 2024, this conference will certainly be remembered due to the round anniversary, it will inspire debates. I am interested in it as a German diplomat who served in various African countries, including Tanzania and DR Congo. The colonial era seems distant and foreign to us with its racist belief in superior civilization, but in the present time, there is a growing desire to shed light on it and heal old wounds. I want to contribute to that, and the World Congress in Africa is well-suited for discussing colonialism and decolonization.
