The land and maritime Silk Roads are the chief link between the Eastern and Western worlds for millennia. Despite its name, not only goods such as silk, spice, tea, glass, and porcelain travels on the ancient routes. Also scientific ideas (mathematics and astronomy from India and Greece) and inventions (paper, compass, gunpowder, and printing from China) spread through the vast transportation network. In this lecture, we focus on the scientific ideas and inventions of different cultures and their fate in different parts of Eurasia from the beginning of the first millennium C.E. to the middle of the following millennium.
