Minerals in the region of The Southern African Development Community (SADC): what are the prospects for cooperation between the nations
I.S. Elisée Byelongo
Abstract

This article emerged from an empirical investigation on minerals that ought to be processed and beneficiated for a developing domestic market. The purpose of this research is threefold:

  • to ascertain the policy effectiveness as a country embarks on local conversion of ores into finished products;
  • to study how harmonious are the policies that aim at industrial development in the region by upholding an excellent use of ores and other natural resources;
  • to propose a path forward for international or regional industrialised development within the entire SADC communities and its economy.

This study is actually a qualitative methodology research. A total of 25 interviews with mining engineers, politicians, university researchers and industry traders were conducted in order to collect data.

Therefore, this study talks about mineral beneficiation policy integration in the SADC countries. The researcher will tell how, why, when, what and how much is needed for effective beneficiation, trade of ores and natural resources in SADC countries.

Why? A conclusion on what we covered, and the survey results thereof will be drawn before possible solutions could be recommended for trade, processing and beneficiation of minerals and other natural resources.

Aspects on which to pay attention for future research will be highlighted so that other researchers could handle them both at university and industrial levels.
